Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Babies at the Barns

The Maasdam Barns in Fairfield will be hosting their annual Babies at the Barns event on Saturday May 10, 2025. Area farm families will bring their animals,  and offspring, to let Visitors interact with them. Learn about the animals and enjoy this time with other Families! Plans include bottle Calves, Pigs, Chickens, Sheep, Goats and of course Draft Horses!!  The Event will start at 10:00 AM and end at 1:00 PM. This is a free event and open to the Public. The Barns are located at 2000 South Main, Fairfield, Iowa.

Mommy & Me Floral Arranging Workshop

Presented by ISU Extension and Outreach: Jefferson County & Jefferson County Iowa 4-H at Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Fairfield IA

Join us in learning to make a flower arrangement Saturday, May 10th from 10:00-11:30 am hosted at the Jefferson County Extension Office. Each registered child will have the opportunity to design and make a flower arrangement with a parent or guardian that they will take home!

All supplies provided.

Cost of the workshop is $5 per child

Join library director Alecs Schmidt-Mickunas for a book club on the themes of ecology, sustainability, and creative solutions to mitigating the climate crisis. Books will be provided to participants through Interlibrary loan three week before the date of the meeting and will be available at the Front Desk. Participants may help select future readings. Refreshments will be provided.

Beginner's origami; Registration Required

Audience: Adults & Youth Age 12 and Up 

Origami, the art of paper folding, originated in Japan in the 7th century, and today is firmly established as an international art form. Join local enthusiast and origami guide Vedder Wright for an intro to origami class. All are welcome, from the humblest of beginners to longtime origami practitioners. All materials will be provided for free to participants. Due to limited space, RSVP is required for this event. This class is intended for students age 12 and up.

There’s something transformative about holding your words in your hands—and this workshop is designed to give you that experience. You don’t need a finished manuscript, just the courage to bring what you have.

This event is hosted by a self-published author and current master’s student in Writing & Publishing, who understands the creative process firsthand. As part of this supportive space, you’ll also learn about revision and publishing opportunities, including an introduction to synchronous writing workshops on Canvas that help writers polish and refine their work efficiently.

Anyone over 14 is welcome to volunteer on their own, 10-13 year olds will need a parent present
